Setting up KOT printing for a two-station kitchen

Route each item to the station that cooks it, with one printer per station.

Expontra team 6 min read

When the tandoor and the main kitchen share one printer, tickets get torn, shouted across and lost. Routing each item to its own station fixes that.

What you need

  • One ESC/POS thermal printer per station (USB or network)
  • The Silent Print Bridge installed on your counter terminal
  • Your menu grouped by the station that prepares each item

Steps

  1. Name your stations in DineOpz — for example Main kitchen and Tandoor.
  2. Assign a printer to each station. Network printers need a fixed IP address on your router.
  3. Map menu groups to stations. Breads go to the tandoor; curries and rice to the main kitchen.
  4. Fire a test order with one item from each station and check both tickets print.

Tips

  • Print the table number large at the top of every KOT.
  • Keep a spare paper roll at each station — a printer out of paper is the most common cause of a missing ticket.
  • If a printer is offline, DineOpz keeps the KOT in the queue and shows it on screen so nothing is lost.
